Ebook About Lieutenant Eve Dallas must solve the murder of a seemingly ordinary family, and protect one small, terrified survivor in this novel in the #1 New York Times bestselling In Death series. No affairs. No criminal connections. No DNA. No clues. Lieutenant Eve Dallas may be the best cop in the city—not to mention having the lavish resources of her husband Roarke at her disposal—but the Swisher case has her baffled. The family members were murdered in their beds with brutal, military precision. The state-of-the-art security was breached, and the killers used night vision to find their way through the cozy middle-class house. Clearly, Dallas is dealing with pros. The only mistake they made was to overlook the nine-year-old girl cowering in the dark in the kitchen… Now Nixie Swisher is an orphan—and the sole eyewitness to a seemingly inexplicable crime. Kids are not Dallas’s strong suit. But Nixie needs a safe place to stay, and Dallas needs to solve this case. Not only because of the promise she made to Nixie. Not only for the cause of justice. But also to put to rest some of her own darkest memories—and deepest fears. With her partner Peabody on the job, and watching her back—and with Roarke providing the kind of help that only he can give—Lieutenant Eve Dallas is running after shadows, and dead-set on finding out who’s behind them.Book Survivor In Death (In Death, Book 20) Review :
A hundred or so years ago people could buy serialized short stories about mountain men, cowboys and cops. The death series continues that tradition. However the cost to the reader is a lot more than a dime. Inflation. The dime store novels were sensationalized and vulgar with lots of action. They were not taken seriously but they made money. The author apparently did an interview about her writing process. Where she stated she writes a short story and then goes back and puts in padding and filler. OK, she used texture and color. Sounds better; means the same thing. So what the reader purchases is a very short story for a very expensive price. The author doesn't have much imagination. Futuristic lingo; 'winky' instead of 'wonky'. Could this be the color the author infuses into her short story? There are a couple of cringe worthy passages. First the author writes in her nine year old voice. No nine year old in any time period in history used that particular voice. I did mention no imagination right? However, if the reader can push past that the story improves. Then comes the next cringe worthy padded moment. Sorry, texture.Per the author the spouse of the main character is every woman's dream man. OK, so at least apparently the author's.In this installment a child is involved. Now the reader might think the main couple would open their hearts and home to this traumatized child but sadly neither has a heart. Since they don't want her and need to get rid of her the sensitive and complete people person spouse tries to strong arm another individual into taking this troubled little girl off his hands. After all, any sensitive person would know that taking care of a child you don't want would lead you to help her through a difficult period in her life with love and compassion. It is so bad the reader might be tempted to throw the book at the nearest wall. Don't. Remember, $$$ investment.Actually, this is one of the better installments despite its many flaws. If you are looking for a good book you won't find it here. It is however, decent junk food and I happen to like the occasional meal of junk food. I know the books on this series don’t always get tied up in a nice neat lil bow, that’s not how this series seems to work. That’s ok , I guess. But sometimes they end in a way that leaves them not quite complete.Like here in this one we spend OVER 20 chapters chasing theses very very cold 🥶 blooded monsters who have destroyed so many lives in the name is payback and revenge but it ends with out feeling resolved. For so long we’re reminded of Nixie’s pain in being the only survivor in this horrible tragedy and even Eve’s ( as per usual) and Roarke’s pain and grief and even poor Summerset’s and yet we are denied any true confrontation between Eve and the evil ones . Not grilling at Cop Central. No spitting and hissing and the baddies brag and or explain . Nothing . Nothing !Nothing after chapters and chapters where Eve runs in circles and runs herself ragged again, as per usual .Yeah, yeah, she caught them but with out any true confrontation or explanation out side pure guess work and supposition,it just feels like the book stops but not ended . But just stops. The story doesn’t feel finished .We deserved to hear the bad guys screaming out why they felt justified to wreak all the destruction and havoc they have .I mean we know Eve and co. have it sussed out but still after chasing these monsters for over 20 chapters and mercilessly killing like they have, you don’t just knock them out and drop us readers off while the rest is done with out us.No,no,no. No!Ps. Two evil men supposedly killing for revenge when their families escape their torture ,but we NEVER learn why a female colleague is he,ping them or killing with them.Good story, but doesn’t give the pay off story and readers deserved.Nixie is pretty cool but also a TSTL at the end.
